Fertiliser Manufacturer Receives Queen's Award

PRESS RELEASE. A leading supplier of high quality speciality fertilisers to the commercial grower has received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise presentation.

Sussex-based Solufeed was awarded the highly prestigious accolade for its outstanding achievement in the category of International Trade on Friday 7 October; the award was formally presented by Mrs Susan Pyper, the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex at Solufeed's headquarters in Barnham.

The company also welcomed a host of guest including owners - and Solufeed customers for 20 years - of a specialist micronutrient business in the heart of the glasshouse production area in Holland. Other guests included Alan Wood - one of the original owners of the business - responsible for the management buy-out from ICI in 1990. They were joined by the Solufeed team and other significant contributors to the business over the years.

Representatives from the company attended a special reception at Buckingham Palace in July to celebrate their achievement, where they met the Queen, Prince Philip and the Duke of Kent.

Solufeed was selected for an award based on its success in achieving substantial growth in overseas earnings as well as 'outstanding' levels of commercial success. Trading independently since 1998, the company manufactures soluble powder, liquid and foliar fertilisers, many of which are specifically developed for overseas markets including, for example, a bespoke liquid fertiliser for African cocoa growers. Exporting more than 70 per cent of its output, Solufeed's exports currently reach 40 countries worldwide.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are considered the most prestigious corporate awards any business can win. Announced in April - to coincide with the Queen's birthday - they are made on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee that includes representatives of government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.

In his speech, Dick Holden, Managing Director of Solufeed Ltd said : "We are delighted to receive such an accolade and I would like to thank each and everyone of you who has helped us in achieving it. Solufeed sells to more than 40 countries, we have some wonderful customers all over the world and have been able to punch far above our weight, competing head-on with some of the largest players in the industry. Our plans foresee a turnover increasing by 50 per cent within the next 3 years."

The award consists of a Grant of Appointment and a presentational item bearing the emblem and is valid for five years.
