Solufeed was originally produced by Imperial Chemical Industries
(ICI) Ltd. The brand name was first registered in 1945.
ICI built experimental glasshouses in the grounds of its headquarters at Fernhurst,
near Haslemere in Surrey, and invested in primary research into the production and feeding of
hydroponic crops, with particular reference to NFT (nutrient film technique).
Solufeed 'F' ('F' for Fernhurst) was the first complete hydroponic feed and is still sold
today. Later came Solufeed 'H' ('H' for Haslemere), a two component hydroponic feed for
tomatoes. In 1990 Solufeed Ltd. was formed following a management buyout from ICI.
The product range expanded and exports increased. Today the company is in independent ownership.
In recent years the product range has expanded further and the company exports to more than
30 countries across the world. Solufeed products, both liquid and powder, are
manufactured to the standards of ISO 9001-2000.
